What is a modular skid?

A modular skid is a system which contains process equipment, piping components, instruments and valves, within a steel frame that allows the system to be easily transported. Such individual skids can be combined to create larger process systems or entire portable plants.

Benefits of modular skids:

Easily transportable– The main advantage of Modular skids is that, they are self-contained units, built within the steel frames, and are easier to transport than traditional process systems. However while designing a skid it is very important to consider some of the factors such as modes of transportation, overall skid dimension and restrictions for the shipment.

Minimal site work- Modular skids arrive at the site pre-assembled and tested. Hence it will minimize the labour for equipment mounting, testing and troubleshooting.
Plug & Play– Typically skids are built offsite as a complete package and assembled at the site. Hence the existing operations are not affected by skid fabrication.
Pre-defined skid layout– Modular skid frames allow equipment layering within the skid layout. Piping, vessels, and necessary process equipment can be fit into a pre-defined footprint with a skid design.
